Former Golden Gaels to tackle new CFL challenges

Recent Queen’s football graduates are already making an impact on the professional scene. At the Canadian Football League draft May 2 in Toronto, linebacker Ian Hazlett, PhysEd ’07, was selected in the fifth round, 38th overall by the Calgary Stampeders.

International stars to shine at Richardson Stadium

On June 6, the Canadian and American national U-20 soccer teams will face off at Richardson Stadium in preparation for July’s FIFA U-20 World Cup, to be staged in multiple cities across Canada. The game will be a rematch of last summer’s 1-1 draw between the teams in Kingston. However, this time around, the upcoming World Cup tournament means there’s significantly more at stake.

OUA schools make major funding changes

A report on athletics and recreation at Queen’s remains unreleased­­—and is two months behind schedule. The athletics review, led by Bob Crawford, former dean of student affairs and current computing professor, and Janice Deakin, dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Research, was originally to be submitted to Dean of Student Affairs Jason Laker by March 30.

Queen’s coaches answer the call

Men’s rugby coach Peter Huigenbos was selected as the video analyst for the Canadian men’s national team competing at the Churchill Cup in England, while women’s volleyball coach Chris Galbraith will be an assistant coach with Team Ontario at the National Team Challenge Cup in July.

Eilish McConville earns national award nomination

Eilish McConville capped off her final year at Queen’s in style, earning the OUA’s female nomination for the prestigious national BLG award.

Queen’s rowing defeats McGill

On April 29, varsity rowing squads from Queen’s and McGill took to the Great Cataraqui River and Inner Harbour for the 11th annual Challenge Boat Race. The race, modeled on such historic dual races between rowing rivals as the annual Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge and the Harvard–Yale Regatta, featured both five-kilometer races and 500-metre sprints.
