A hot Saturday afternoon at Kingston Field was the setting for the men’s Golden Gaels rugby win over the OUA defending champion McMaster Marauders. From the opening kick to the final whistle, the Gaels dominated the play.

Football stays undefeated
The Queen’s Golden Gaels, Canada’s eighth-ranked team, remained undefeated after pounding the University of Windsor Lancers 38-3 in front of a national television audience on Saturday evening. Running back Mike Giffin continued his all-star season with three rushing touchdowns and 120 yards, while quarterback Danny Brannagan threw for 258 yards and two touchdowns.

Women’s soccer takes two games
The women’s soccer team was twice victorious in their home games this past weekend against the Laurentian Voyageurs and the Nipissing Lakers. The Gaels won 5-0 on Saturday and followed up that performance with a 4-1 victory Sunday against Nipissing. These games followed on the heels of the team’s road trip to North Bay and Sudbury to play Nipissing and Laurentian the previous weekend. The Gaels tied the Lakers 1-1 and the Voyageurs 0-0 in their away games.

Men’s soccer defeats Voyageurs, Lakers
The men’s soccer team beat both the Laurentian Voyageurs and the Nipissing Lakers at Richardson Stadium this weekend, coming away with 2-0 and 2-1 victories. The previous weekend, Queen’s beat Laurentian 3-0 and lost to Nipissing 1-0. Going into the weekend’s action, the Gaels were third in the OUA East with 11 points, three behind Nipissing but one ahead of Laurentian. The pair of wins gave them six points, moving them up into second place behind the Carleton Ravens.

Cross country sets bar high at Western
The Queen’s cross country team had no shortage of success this past weekend at their first meet of the season, the University of Western Ontario Invitational. In the men’s 10-kilometre race, Braden Novakowski finished third overall while Robert Kitz finished 10th. The two runners were the first two from Canadian schools to cross the finish line. Matt Hulse followed by finishing 19th in his first 10-kilometre race for Queen’s.

Brady Olsen scored two goals as the men’s hockey team beat RMC 4-1 in exhibition play on Saturday. The game was the second annual Lou Jeffries game, held in Gananoque to honour the late Lou Jeffries, longtime Queen’s hockey supporter. Jon Asselstine and Rob Cattallo scored the other Queen’s goals, while Mike Bushby had two assists. Ryan Gibb made 26 saves for the win.
