Homeless hockey still has hope

It’s shaping up to be an interesting year for the Queen’s ice hockey teams, who are looking forward to the first of several seasons without home ice.

The heads up on head injuries

Men’s soccer defender Michael Zanetti knows what it’s like to have a concussion. Zanetti suffered his third two weekends ago on the Gaels’ road trip to face the Nipissing Lakers and the Laurentian Voyageurs. Concussions, once rarely talked about, are becoming the focus of more research, debate and discussion. Dave Ross, the co-ordinator of athletic therapy services, said concussions occur quite frequently in Queen’s athletics.

Gaels off to a hot start

It has been a September to remember for the Queen’s Golden Gaels. After the university released an athletics review in June stressing the need for financial support of interuniversity sports and suggesting cutting 10 to 16 of them to make that possible, varsity teams have had one of their most successful Septembers ever.

Athletes of the Week

At the Head of the Rideau regatta last weekend in Ottawa, the men’s rowing team won 14 gold medals, six silver and a bronze. Morgan Jarvis led the way in the singles event: he won in 19 minutes and 50 seconds, just one second shy of the course record.

Sports In Brief

The Queen’s rowing team travelled to Ottawa for the Head of the Rideau Regatta last weekend and returned full-handed, with 14 gold, six silver and one bronze medal. The men’s rowers won all nine golds in their races, with Morgan Jarvis finishing one second behind the course record in the Open Men’s Single.
