Lacrosse takes two

Missing out on the weekend’s Homecoming festivities didn’t stop the women’s lacrosse team from proving they still had Golden Gael spirit.

Selling Queen’s sports

The University’s Athletics and Recreation Review is officially still in consultation, but the athletics department is already implementing recommendations to up its revenue. The review, released in June, recommends the University make a concerted effort to boost self-generated funds. Although Principal Karen Hitchcock has held off on approving any aspects of the review until Dec. 31, chair of Athletics and Recreation Leslie Dal Cin said the structure she has put in place will support either direction the Principal wants to go.

Rowing wins six golds

The Queen’s rowing team continued its impressive start to the season at the Brock Invitational Regatta this past weekend, winning six races and placing second in five others. The women’s crew triumphed in the lightweight singles, lightweight doubles, lightweight four, lightweight eight and heavyweight singles. The men came first in the lightweight four competition. The results in St. Catharines follow strong performances for the Gaels at the University of Ottawa and Trent University in September.

Athletes of the Week

Mike Giffin is looking to build on his phenomenal weekend, when he broke several long-standing Queen’s football records in his team’s 45-0 pounding of the Waterloo Warriors. On Saturday Giffin, the OUA’s male athlete of the week, rushed for 193 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Sports In Brief

Gaels’ golf captain Patrick Forbes was named a first-team OUA All-Star Thursday. Forbes won two out of the six tournaments the team played in, and finished second at another.
