Volleyball edges Rams
It was closer than they might have liked, but both the men’s and women’s volleyball teams eked out five-set victories against the Ryerson Rams in Toronto Saturday. The contest was the men’s eighth five-set match so far this season—more than any other team in the OUA. Setter Devon Miller said the Gaels’ continued inability to put matches away early is due to a lack of “mental toughness.”

To say the men’s basketball team’s most recent road trip was a challenging one would be an understatement. Not only were they playing away from home against the ninth-ranked team in the country, but they were doing so with only eight players dressed due to injuries.

Tough losses for women
The women’s basketball team dropped both of their games in Toronto this weekend. On Friday the team lost to the 2-12 Ryerson Rams 53-45, while on Saturday they faced the 11-3 University of Toronto Varsity Blues and lost a hard-fought game 71-56. In Friday’s game, the Gaels led 38-37 after the third quarter but struggled to score in the final 10 minutes, resulting in their first loss of the weekend. Head coach Dave Wilson said the game held no positives for the Gaels.

A BEWIC Blast
The varsity teams were on the road this weekend as the PEC was used for the ever-popular intramural BEWIC Sports Days. Journal photo editor Harrison Smith covered parts of the event, which featured rugby basketball, inner-tube water polo, volleyball and floorball. More than 1000 people attended.
