Football meets its Waterloo

The football team’s season lost some statistical prestige during Saturday’s game against the Laurier Golden Hawks. The Gaels are no longer the only undefeated team in Canada and quarterback Danny Brannagan is no longer the Canadian all-time passing leader.

Gaels soar over Ravens after loss to UQTR

After a 5-1 loss to the McGill Redmen last Sunday, the men’s hockey team was looking to bounce back at the Memorial Centre this weekend. After a miserable 8-2 loss to the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) Patriotes on Friday night, the Gaels fought back on Saturday against Carleton, pulling out a 5-3 victory over the Ravens.

Lacrosse goes 2-1 during only homestand of the season

Despite a challenging schedule, cheers boomed at Kingston Field on Sunday as the Queen’s women’s lacrosse team finished their regular season with three games in two days. Following an 8-7 loss to the Western Mustangs on Saturday, the Gaels refueled overnight and dominated the Guelph Gryphons 13-4 and McGill Redmen 17-9 on Sunday.

Men’s rugby still undefeated

Most sports teams would view a second-straight undefeated as cause for celebration. But men’s rugby head coach Peter Huigenbos said his team’s approaching theirs with cautious optimism.

Women’s rugby knocked out of CIS berth

After Saturday’s 56-3 loss to the third-ranked Guelph Gryphons, the 10th-ranked women’s rugby team has been knocked out of a chance to compete for a provincial gold medal and a national gold medal. Head coach Beth Barz said the loss didn’t affect the team much.

Sports in Brief

The men’s basketball team picked up two pre-season wins last weekend, edging out the Université du Quebec à Montréal Citadins 94-90 in overtime on Friday night and demolishing the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds the next afternoon.
