Gaels look ahead to Final Four

After a stellar 13-1-2 regular season, a third-place national ranking and a 3-1 quarter-final victory last week over the Carleton Ravens, the women’s soccer team will look to cap off their season on a high note this weekend as they head to the OUA Final Four, hosted by the York Lions in Toronto.

Looking to beat McMaster again

After securing first-place in the OUA and the esteem that accompanies it, a Gaels loss tomorrow would be the glass slipper on the McMaster Marauders’ Cinderella story. After a 27-15 overtime victory against the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees last weekend, the Marauders travel to Richardson Stadium for the OUA semifinal game to play the Gaels team that beat them two months ago.

Rugby up for tough semifinal

The men’s rugby team hasn’t lost a game since one year ago Sunday, Nov. 8, when the McMaster Marauders beat them 18-10 in the OUA finals in Markham. The Gaels had their revenge this season, though, with a convincing 59-5 win at Kingston Field on Sept. 26. The two teams collide once more in the OUA semifinal tomorrow at Kingston Field.

Female Athlete of the Week

The Canadian University Rowing Championships are generally held over two days, but bad weather in Montreal last Saturday forced all of the athletes to row their races on Sunday. With all of their hard work over the summer and fall cumulating in one race day, Sarah Marshall and the rest of the women’s team didn’t allow conditions to affect them, placing third in the country.

Male Athlete of the Week

After going 3-5 in pre-season play, the men’s volleyball team is 4-0 in the regular season thanks in a large part to the contributions of second-year setter Jackson Dakin. Dakin said the pre-season was a chance for him to learn and settle in.
