Gearing up for Yates Cup

Queen’s football hasn’t competed in a Yates Cup since 2002. They haven’t won since 1978. For the first time in 31 years, they’re hosting it tomorrow.

Third time’s the charm for rugby

Tomorrow’s final is a matter of looking forward rather than back for the men’s rugby team. This Saturday, the undefeated Gaels travel the long road to Markham once more to compete in their third-straight OUA final at Fletcher’s Field.

Women’s soccer off to national semifinal

Despite a heartbreaking loss on penalty kicks in the OUA Final against the York Lions last weekend, the women’s soccer team nevertheless earned a berth to conclude their season at the 2009 CIS Championships this weekend at the University of Toronto.

Gaels stymied by Paladins

In the only hockey game in CIS action on Wednesday, the Gaels dropped a 4-3 decision to the Royal Military College Paladins, falling in a shootout. Head coach Brett Gibson said he was short of answers to figuring out what happened.

Female Athlete of the Week

Kelli Chamberlain joined the women’s soccer team as a walk-on in open tryouts two years ago, having never played forward before. 12th in OUA goal-scoring this season with six goals, the starting forward scored twice in the Gael’s semifinal win against the Laurier Golden Hawks last weekend, qualifying the team for the OUA final and ultimately the CIS Championships in Toronto this weekend.

Male Athlete of the Week

After being drafted 40th overall in the CFL entry draft in April by the Edmonton Eskimos and accepted to their practice roster, defensive end Osie Ukwuoma returned to Queen’s for a fifth year of football. His final year with the Queen’s team has been the Gaels’ most successful campaign. They will compete in the Yates Cup tomorrow for the first time in seven years.

The hands of Queen’s football players held the Yates Cup for the first time in 31 years today.

Men's rugby wins Turner Cup

This morning, the men’s rugby team was going into its third-straight OUA Final not having won the elusive Turner Trophy since 2001. Tonight, the team can call itself the OUA champion.
