New financial vice-principal starts January
Queen’s has hired two new vice-principals for the four vice-principal positions which will turn over this year. The vice-principal (finance and operations) position has been vacant since Andrew Simpson resigned on Nov. 20, 2008. Bill Bryck has been acting vice-principal (operations and finance) since then.

COMPSA orientation on probation
The Computing Students’ Association (COMPSA) will lose its independent orientation and be integrated in the Arts and Science Undergraduate Society (ASUS)’s orientation week next September. Acting Faculty of Arts and Science Associate Dean (Studies) Hugh Horton made the announcement at Arts and Science Faculty Board—made up of administration, faculty and students—on Nov. 13.

Study links mental health, education results
Inattention due to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and depression relates to how long children and adolescents stay in school, a new study by Queen’s health economics professor Steven Lehrer says. Lehrer and Jason Fletcher of Yale University won the Victor R. Fuchs Research Award, valued at $10,000, for their paper, which was published in Forum for Health Economics & Policy research journal.

Prison program empowers inmates
Five commerce students are taking their education out of the classroom and into the prison system. Julia Hunter, Lisa McLaughling and Robyn Williams, all Comm ’11 and exchange students Alexander Buesching and Thomas Verbist designed a program that gives inmates at Frontenac Institution minimum security prison lessons on integrating back into society.
