User-friendly apps for your phone.

With the first week of the school year in full swing students have a lot on their minds. Fortunately, there are several apps available for iPhones and Androids to keep your mind cool, calm and collected.

Sleep Cycle

Sleep Cycle helps make 8:30 mornings more bearable. The app functions as an enhanced alarm clock. To use Sleep Cycle, a phone simply needs to be placed on your bed as you sleep.

The user sets a time frame for when they need to be woken up, and the app analyzes your sleep cycle to wake you up during your lightest sleep phase. This makes you feel well rested, so you can conquer the busy day ahead of you. Although this app isn’t free, the $0.99 fee is worth it.

Wunderlist

For students struggling to balance school, work and extracurriculars, Wunderlist is a easy-to-use app to de-clutter your life. This free app lets you create and tick-off personal and professional to-do lists, helping you reach your goals.

Yummly

Whether you’re cooking on your own for the first time, or an advanced cook looking for challenging recipes, Yummly is a great app. This application provides personalized recipes based on your skill level, favourite types of food, dietary restrictions and other personal preferences.

Another similar recipe app is Tender. Instead of swiping through profiles of potential suitors like you do on Tinder, you swipe through recipes — swiping left to throw away a recipe and swiping right to save it.

Camscanner

Although the Print and Copy Centre (P&CC) is a great resource for students looking for copying and printing work, CamScanner is a free app that provides a quick alternative for items that need to be scanned.

CamScanner lets you take photos of a document, crop it, enhance it and ultimately make it more visually pleasing. The application saves documents as either a .jpg or .pdf and then allows the files to be sent to iCloud or an e-mail.

Clue

For the ladies, Clue is a menstruation app that tracks period dates, PMS symptoms and even records when you’re ovulating or most likely to get pregnant.

This app can display what symptoms are related to your cycle and accurately predicts when they will occur. Clue is very easy to use and does all the work for you, so you won’t be surprised when it’s that time of the month again.
