Mother

1. Who are you?

Ryan Guldemond.

2. What do you do?

Predominately I play in a band called Mother, Mother. This entails singing, playing guitar, writing songs, rehearsing, making records, going on tour and doing press.

3. Where can someone find you?

mothermothersite.com

4. Where do you live and work and why?

I live in Vancouver, BC. I grew up on a Northern Gulf Island called Quadra, a place I couldn’t stay forever, so when it was time to leave Vancouver seemed appropriate, being the closest urban centre on the main land. I work in Vancouver as a musician and also across the country and in the U.S. as a touring musician. I do this because I like it very much.

5. When did you start

making music?

Five years ago in January.

6. How would you describe

your music?

Vocal-driven. Odd. Eclectic. Catchy.

7. What inspires you?

Good music, good books, good films. Challenges. Complex relationships. Love. Hate. Happy endings as well as gross injustices. Cool words. The Conquest.

Stuff, etc.

8. What are your current obsessions?

Writing new songs, I guess. I get very consumed with this process, always humming and singing under my breath, finding myself removed from the moment. I’m not sure I’d call it an obsession, though. It doesn’t feel unhealthy or at the expense of everything else in

my life.

9. When someone says “Kingston” you think…

A place in Ontario that we’ve not played very much. Only twice we’ve performed in Kingston, so we’re looking forward to coming back and furthering the rapport.

10. What are you currently working on?

We’re heading back into the studio in the New Year to record our third album, so there’s a lot of planning, writing and conceptualizing happening

right now.
