Five Queen’s football players are going pro. Gaels Anthony Federico, Peter Adjey, Jacob Butler, Rasheed Tucker, and Konner Burtenshaw were selected in the 2022 CFL Draft that took place on May 3.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats drafted Federico in the second round at 17th overall, following an incredible four-year career on Queen’s defensive line. He was named an OUA First Team All-Star and made the U Sports Second Team after recording an astonishing 24 solo tackles during the regular season. Federico added eight more during the OUA Playoffs.

Long snapper Adjey was drafted by the Edmonton Elks in the third round at 28th overall, just ahead of Butler, who the Calgary Stampeders took at 34th overall. The latter is a left tackle this season, who competed four regular season games and all three of Queen’s playoff games.

Tucker is set to join teammates Josh Mosley—selected during the off-season—and Butler in Calgary for the upcoming season after being selected during the sixth round.

After the 2021 season, Tucker was named a U Sports First Team All Canadian for his outstanding performance as a running back. He also won the Canadian Football Perspective OUA Offensive Player of the Week twice during the regular season, and twice more during the playoffs.

Finally, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers made Burtenshaw the 74th overall in the draft’s eighth round. The running back finished the season with 13 carries for 39 yards and three touchdowns, making him a welcome addition to their offence.

Queen’s Coach Steve Snyder took to Twitter to announce his excitement.

“What a night! 5 @CFL Draft Picks from @Queens_Football We are as committed to developing pro players as anyone in the nation. Tonight was a statement!” he wrote.

The Journal looks forward to watching these Gaels achieve professional success and anticipates more Gaels will soon follow in their footsteps.
