Rice Krispy Hearts
A quick and easy sweet treat-perfect for a potluck or bake sale.
Ingredients

• 2-3 drops of red food colouring

• 5 cups of marshmallows

• 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal

• ¼ cup of butter

• 1 tsp vanilla
Directions

• Melt butter in microwave for 30 seconds; add marshmallows and microwave again for 1 minute.

• Add vanilla and food colouring, mix; add Rice Krispies and mix.

• Fill 9 x 13 inch greased pan; refrigerate and cover with saran wrap for 1.5 hours.

• Flip dessert out of pan onto cutting board; use heart cookie cutter to cut out heart-shaped treats.

Red Velvet Pancakes
A colourful twist on a breakfast favourite.
Ingredients (makes 16)

• Pancake mix

• Milk/water depending on mix

• 1 ½ tbsp red food coloring
Cream Cheese Glaze

• 8 oz cream cheese (1 package), softened

• 6 tbsp butter, softened

• 2 cups powdered sugar

• 1/2 cup milk

• 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Directions

• In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt, set aside.

• Measure out milk and whisk in vinegar, allow mixture to rest for 2 minutes; pour milk mixture into a separate large mixing bowl and add in sugar, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla and melted butter. Whisk mixture until well combine.

• While whisking, slowly add in dry ingredients and mix until combined.

• Butter pan if necessary and pour about a 1/4 – 1/3 cup batter (depending on how large you want your pancakes) at a time onto hot griddle; cook until bubbles begin to appear on the top surface of the pancakes then flip and cook opposite side until pancake is cooked through.

• Serve warm with Cream Cheese Glaze and garnish with fresh raspberries.

Cream Cheese Glaze

• In a mixing bowl, using an electric hand mixer set on medium speed, blend together cream cheese and butter until well combined and fluffy, about two minutes.

• Add in remaining ingredients and mix about one minute until well combined, adding additional milk to thin if desired.

Pizza with a twist
Order in a pepperoni pizza, dress up the pepperoni with clean scissors into heart-shaped pieces-an unexpected Valentine’s Day surprise!

Heart-Shapes Roasted Potatoes
Adds instant corny charm to your Valentine’s Day dinner; compliment with a juicy steak for a classy, gourmet meal. Candles optional.
What you need

• 4 potatoes, sliced into 2-inch sections

• 2 tbsp olive oil

• 2 tbsp dried rosemary

• Heart-shaped cookie cutter
Directions

• Preheat oven to 475 F.

• Microwave potatoes one by one for one minute to soften (this makes slicing easier).

• Slice into 2 inch sections; place cookie cutter on each slice and cut out heart-shaped pieces.

• Brush with olive oil and disperse on flat baking tray; sprinkle with rosemary and salt.

• Bake for 30 minutes; serve with steak for a perfect Valentine’s Day dinner.

Candy filled fortune cookies
A unique way to fulfil a sweet tooth! Valentine’s Day requires candy, after all…

Red velvet cupcakes with a surprise Kiss (makes 24 cupcakes)
If there’s ever a good time to make red velvet cupcakes, this is it.

Ingredients

• 1 package of red velvet cupcake mix

• 2 eggs

• Oil

• 12 hershey’s kisses
Directions

• Preheat oven to 350F; follow box directions and mix ingredients.

• Pour into paper-lined muffin tins.

• Drop 1 hershey kiss into the center of each cupcake.

• Bake based on box instructions.
Cream cheese frosting
Ingredients

• 1/2 cup of butter (1 stick), room temperature

• 8 oz of cream cheese (1 package), room temperature

• 2 – 3 cups of powdered sugar

• 1 tsp of vanilla extract
Directions

• With an electric mixer, mix the butter and cream cheese together, about three minutes.

• Add the vanilla extract and mix. Slowly add the powdered sugar.

• Take a Ziploc bag, fill with icing, close and make small cut in one corner of the bag; use to ice the cupcakes once cooled.

Valentine’s Day ice cubes
Perfect for a themed pre-drink and to make your vodka soda festive.
Ingredients

• 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds

• 2 cups water
Directions

• Score 1 fresh pomegranate and place in a bowl of water; break open the pomegranate under water to free the seed sacs (the seeds will sink to the bottom of the bowl and the membrane will float to the top)

• Sieve and put the seeds in a separate bowl. Measure out 1/2 cup of the seeds and set aside. (Refrigerate or freeze remaining seeds for another use.).

• Fill two ice cube trays with water almost to the top, and place in freezer for about an hour.

• When cubes are semi-frozen, remove the trays from the freezer; sprinkle pomegranate seeds into cubes in tray.

• Place trays back in the freezer until cubes are frozen solid; serve with beverage of your choice.

Heart-shaped egg in a nest
Another corny way to start the day.
Ingredients (serves 2)

• 2 eggs

• 2 slices of whole wheat toast

• 2 tbsp butter
Directions

• Using a 3-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter, remove the center of a thick slice of bread, and toast it.

• Melt 1 1/2 tsp butter in a small skillet over medium heat; place bread slice in skillet, and cook until underside is lightly browned. Add another 1 ½ tsp butter, and flip bread.

• Fit cookie cutter, coated with cooking spray, in bread’s cutout heart and crack an egg into cutter. Cover skillet, and cook until egg is set, two to three minutes. Use tongs to remove cutter. Serve with heart-shaped toast for dipping into yolk.

Heart Shaped Hard Boiled Eggs
Wake up and treat yourself (or your loved one) to hard-boiled eggs, some fried bacon and warm buttery toast.

What you need

• Square of milk carton material

• A chopstick

• 2 rubber bands

• Hard boiled egg, without shell
Directions

Step 1: Cut milk carton and fold it in half lengthwise.

Step 2: Make a hard boiled egg.

Step 3: While the egg is still warm, peel the egg and put the egg on the milk carton, place a chopstick on the center of the egg, and put rubber bands on the both ends.

Step 4: Place egg in the fridge and leave it for about 10 minutes.

Step 5: Take the chopstick off and cut the egg in half.
