After a mediocre weekend, going 1-2-1 in the University of Toronto Invitational at Lamport stadium, the Gaels field hockey team is refined and ready for the regular season.

Friday’s turf wars produced two narrow losses, as the Gaels dropped both games by 1-0 scores to the Guelph Gryphons and the Marauders from McMaster. While McMaster’s defeat of the Gaels was a less than desirable effort by the squad, the Guelph fixture was an encouraging performance against a tough team.Continue...

Two OUA championships in a row won’t be enough to satisfy the hunger of the Gaels women’s lacrosse team, who start their drive to three-peat this season on September 24 against the York Yeowomen and the Marletts of McGill. Despite losing six players from last year’s championship lineup, head coach Cheryl McNeill still has a lot of faith in her remaining troops. Players such as Darcie Spearing, a two-time OUA East Division All-star, and Heather Goodin, the East Division’s Rookie Of The Year and Outstanding Defensive Player last season, will be forced to pick up the slack.Continue...

Given some of the pitfalls that befell them in 1999, the Golden Gaels baseball team might be willing to accept greater stability in exchange for playing fewer slugfests.

Last season, the highlights (or lowlights) of a tumultuous 7-9 campaign came either when the Gaels had to play home games on the road because of a municipal strike, or lost a tripleheader against Carleton that was played in cojones-shriveling cold more generally associated with a NFL playoff game in Buffalo.Continue...

The Gaels swim team, class of the Eastern division since the provincial athletic association split into three regions five years ago, should again dominate the traditionally weak division.
