National recognition for Giffin

Gaels’ running back Mike Giffin was named to the first-team All-Canadian football team Wednesday. Giffin was the first running back in Queen’s history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season, and set school records with 16 touchdowns and 96 points. He finished tied for second in Canada with 12 rushing touchdowns. Receiver Rob Bagg, offensive lineman Cody Kennedy and defensive lineman Osie Ukwuoma were all given second-team honours.

Strong performances for swimming

The swim team put in a strong performance in Sudbury at the Enyon Division Championships last weekend.

The women’s four by 50-metre relay team led the way, placing second, while both the men’s four by 50-metre medley and four by 50-metre free relay teams placed third.

Team co-captain Chris Kreutzner led the way in individual events, winning silver and bronze medals in the 100 and 50 metre breaststroke races.
