Comm ’09 to establish memorial scholarship

The class of Comm ’09 is establishing a scholarship fund in memory of student Baha Bekenov, Comm ’09, who died suddenly of a pre-existing medical condition in Goodes Hall on Nov. 11, 2008.

The class is working to raise funds for its “Comm ’09 Scholarship in memory of Baha Bekenov” as its graduating gift.

The required minimum endowment as required by the university is $12,500, which is paid over a five-year period. The class has 100 days to raise the target of $2,500.

In an e-mail to the Journal COMMitment Co-Chair Abby Ho said the fund came as a result of contact with Bekenov’s family.

The scholarship will be given to students who are in financial need, in fourth year after participating in an exchange.
