A first-year student is dead and another remains in hospital after a fall through a skylight in the roof of Duncan McArthur Hall to the floor of the Education Library just before 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night.

19 year-old Habib Khan of Saudi Arabia was pronounced dead in hospital. 18 year-old Stephen Nagy of Mississauga is in hospital in stable condition.

Kahn was in residence in Brockington House on main campus and Nagy resides on West Campus in Jean Royce Hall.

Kingston Police Staff Sergeant Keith Hill said police were called to the library by 7:35 p.m. Hill said the investigation is still ongoing and no further information will be available until later today.

Both students were taken to hospital but no further details are being released at this time. A coroner was on scene at 10:15 p.m.

“This is a terrible shock,” Principal Daniel Woolf said. “Our thoughts are with the students and their friends and families. Counsellors are available to talk to students who need support.”
