Kingston Police confirmed on Sunday morning that the body they found in the Cataraqui River was that of missing St. Lawrence College student Ken Kilabuk.

A passerby discovered the body around 5:15 p.m. on Saturday and called the police shortly after. By 6:20 p.m., the body had been recovered.

Kingston Police haven’t yet commented on how long the body was in the water. An autopsy is set to take place in Ottawa today, which police hope will give insight into the cause of death and whether it should be considered suspicious.

Kilabuk, a 22-year-old Kingston resident had last been seen early on the morning of Oct. 16.

He was reported missing that same day after his girlfriend, Meghan Mike, didn’t receive her usual “good morning” text from Kilabuk.

After Mike, who studies in Ottawa, didn’t hear from Kilabuk all day, she grew increasingly worried and around 10 p.m. sent a few friends in Kingston to check if Kilabuk was in his apartment.

When they found Kilabuk’s dog alone at the home, they contacted the police.
