New QLC lab provides space for international students

The Queen’s Learning Commons (QLC) and Student Academic Success Services (SASS), are creating a new space in Stauffer Library for international and English as a Second Language (ESL) students.

SASS will be spearheading the programming while QLC provides space for the new area.

Susan Korba, Director of SASS said this lab will be “a space where [SASS] will provide different kinds of support than that offered by the Learning [Strategies] or Writing Centre.”

The lab will offer speech development software and other opportunities for students to improve their verbal and written English. The Residence Society funded the purchase of the software.

Although this lab will be focused on helping international and ESL students, the resources will be open for all students, according to Korba. She said the lab will be a small room with a couple of computers and work areas for students to book.
