Dinner and a movie is a tried-and-true way to celebrate Valentine’s Day, but Kingston has much more to offer than just food and films. The Journal compiled a list of events happening in the Limestone City on Feb. 14 to help you impress your date (or yourself) and fall in love with the art of our city.

1)    Valentine’s Day with Miss Emily

If you’re going for the more traditional Valentine’s Day route, this concert is just what you’re looking for. This promises to be a night of romance, celebrating love and reveling in all aspects of it—from crushes to heartbreak, Kingston-based singer and songwriter Miss Emily will perform a range of love songs.

Miss Emily’s 2017 album In Between featured The Tragically Hip’s Gord Sinclair and Rob Baker. Now she’s coming back to Kingston for Valentine’s Day with Miss Emily.

This concert is part of the Isabel Bader concert series. Doors open at The Isabel at 6:30 p.m.

2)    Mississippi Grover and The Binge at The Toucan

Not looking for a romantic night? There’s something for you, too. This show at The Toucan offers garage, punk, and bluesy tunes. Mississippi Grover—a one-man band—is made up of Grog Watson. At this show, he’ll be opening for The Binge.

The Toucan is the perfect place for those looking for a more casual way to spend the night. Mississippi Grover starts at 10 p.m.

3)    Absolute Comedy’s Valentine’s Day Dinner and Show

For those anti-Valentine’s Day folks out there, a night of stand-up comedy is about as un-sexy as it gets. With headliner Sam Demaris, this evening at Absolute Comedy Club Kingston offers an alternative way to spend Valentine’s Day. You can either purchase tickets for the show alone, or dinner and a show on Absolute Comedy’s website.

4)    Christopher Jackson and Friends in the Lounge at BLUmartini

This event promises new music, multiple surprise guests, and good times. For those looking to go out for music and drinks, but want to dress up and have a more formal night out, BLUmartini is the way to go.

Whether you opt for a casual night of music and beer at The Toucan, stand-up at Absolute Comedy, or love songs serenaded by Miss Emily at the Isabel, Kingston is offering something for everyone this Valentine’s Day.
