Queen’s Pub will not open for the upcoming school year.

Queen’s Pub (QP) will remain closed in the 2021-22 academic year. The Journal spoke with AMS Vice-President (Operations) Tiana Wong on the decision not to re-open.

“We are not planning to open Queen’s Pub for this academic year in 2021-22 as it will not be able to be operational while the JDUC is under construction,” Wong said.

“The closure of Queen’s Pub wouldn’t affect any other services operations. Unfortunately, we won’t be hiring staff at the pub.”

“We didn’t want to do what happened last year and hire staff and then not have [staff] have any work because we weren’t able to operate during COVID-19,” Wong said.

This year, the AMS has created new waged and honorarium opportunities through the Environmental Sustainability Commission, the Social Issues Commission, the External Affairs Commission, the Clubs Commission, the Marketing Office, The Journal, and the AMS Food Bank.

To provide more student employment opportunities, the Print & Copy Centre (P&CC) and Tricolour Outlet both have an additional 15 service staff, Wong added.

While QP will not be in operation, Wong said executive team RTZ is currently focused on reopening Clark Hall Pub, a student-run pub operated by the Engineering Society located above the Campus Bookstore.

“Our president [Zaid Kasim] has been really helping spearhead that project alongside the Engineering society,” Wong said.

“We’re hoping that [Queen’s Pub] will be in operation very soon and is still open to all students and alumni when it does open.”
