The Queen’s Black Academic Society sparked conversation and action among Queen’s clubs and student groups when they posted a call to action on their social media platforms May 31st. By June 8th, student groups had donated more than $33,000 to various charities and organizations in support of Black lives.  Sara Abdella, Head of Marketing for QBAS, meets with The Journal and reflects on this monumental social media movement.

The Journal sat down with AMS executive hopefuls Jared Den Otter, Alexia Henriques and Alex Samoyloff to chat about their campaign platform and plans for 2020-21.

Get up to speed with the 2020 student elections at Queen’s University. The Journal breaks down what’s happening in the month of January, from AMS to Rector elections.

Season V is a newly-formed Kingston-based indie pop band. The six Chinese international students met while attending Queen’s University, and bonded over their common love for creating music. In 2019, they decided to join together to write and record their own original songs. The band features Alice Wang on piano, Key Hu on vocals, Siyi Quan on vocals, Qingchuan Yang and Xiao Liu on guitar, Jijun Sun on bass, and Jason Yichen Zhao on drums. Each member has been passionate about creating music from a young age. 

 This week, The Journal’s Sports editors teamed up with Queen’s Fencing to try out one of the swankiest combat sports around. While they didn’t transform into pros after one lesson, they did learn a couple of great moves and some fun and fancy footwork. After returning to the safety of The Journal house, the two reflected on their experience and the new-found fencing rivalry between them. Here’s some of the highlights of their afternoon together
