The testing centre at Mitchell Hall is open Monday to Friday.

Students who aren’t showing symptoms of COVID-19 can now get tested at the centre in Mitchell Hall.

As of Jan. 25, Student Wellness Services is offering voluntary, asymptomatic COVID-19 testing. The move comes as Queen’s supports Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox and Addington (KFL&A) Public Health’s plan to implement asymptomatic testing in the region.

Students who have traveled outside of the region—beyond Hastings, Prince Edward, Leeds, Grenville, or Lanark counties—have had visitors from outside of the region, or have moved to the region in the last two weeks are asked to get tested, even if they’re not showing symptoms.

The new testing strategy is being implemented because the first B.1.1.7 case—the new, more contagious variant of COVID-19 found in the UK—has been confirmed in the region.

In a press release on Monday, Mark Green, provost and vice-principal (academic) reminded students who have traveled to Kingston from outside of the region to self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival.

“I strongly encourage all members of the Queen’s community who fall into the above noted categories to get tested,” Green said. “Thank you for your continued vigilance to protect our community.”
