The beginning of the semester saw both hockey teams on the road for a pair of matchups. While the men’s team found good fortune away from home, the women weren’t quite as lucky.

After his starting and backup goaltenders left the program this summer, men’s hockey Head Coach Brett Gibson faced a problem: he only had one goalie going into the season, and hadn’t recruited at all for another.

Last Saturday, the men’s hockey team beat the RMC Paladins for the second time this season, coming away with a 7-2 win on home ice.

Over the weekend, the men’s hockey team (10-3-0) completed their four-game home series with two decisive wins over the Laurentian Voyageurs (5-7-0) and Nipissing Lakers (3-9).

The women’s hockey team (7-4-0-0) was the lone Queen’s team on the road this weekend, losing to the Nipissing Lakers (4-3-4-0) while defeating the Laurentian Voyageurs (3-5-1-2).

After two road trips, the men’s hockey team returned to the Memorial Centre for a pair of games against the Université de Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) Patriotes this weekend, defeating them 5-2 on Friday and 3-2 on Saturday.

While most students spent their long weekend at home, the women’s hockey team (4-2) stayed in Kingston, picking up two wins against the York Lions (1-2) and Brock Badgers (2-1).

When men’s hockey head coach Brett Gibson first joined the Gaels’ hockey program in 2006, he admits he was a kid. With several program records, a nationally-ranked team, and now 150 regular-season wins under his belt—he knows he’s a man.

The men’s hockey team endured its first loss of the season and captured one win in back-to-back games this weekend.

After a hectic first weekend of the regular season, women’s hockey head coach Matt Holmberg struggled to find a single word to define the Gaels’ opening pair of games.

The past two seasons for the women’s hockey team have been a constant flow of progress. This season, there’s no desire to take a step back.

The Gaels kicked off their regular season with two wins on Saturday and Wednesday, defeating the defending OUA champion, the McGill Redmen, 2-1 in overtime on the road and the RMC Paladins 4-0 at home.

The men’s hockey team lives and trains by one motto: karma.
