Laura Devenny, AMS Secretary of Internal Affairs, and Erica Johnson, Chief Electoral Officer, hosted a Rector info session for interested candidates on Mar. 1. Around eight students expressed interest at the event.

The Rector Election will take place starting Mar. 3, with the voting period between Mar. 20 to 21.

Johnson said the nomination period would be open from Mar. 3 to 7. Validation and an all-candidates meeting is set for Mar. 10. Following the all-candidates meeting, the campaign period will occur from Mar. 12 to 18. The all-candidates’ debate will take place on Mar. 16.

Nomination packages and information sheets were made available on Mar. 1 for all potential candidates interested in running.

Devenny highlighted an important part of this year’s Rector election process would be a return to some in-person campaigning activities.

“The uniqueness of [the Rector position] is that it encompasses the entire student body, and not just undergraduates or graduates as maybe a trustee or your SGPS and AMS presidencies would,” Devenny said.

Johnson added the Rector serves as a “liaison between […] Queen’s administration and the students.”

“They sit on the Board of Trustees and the Senate, [… and] AMS assembly and SGPS Council. They provide confidential student support and academic grievance support,” Johnson said.
