Story: Aries (born Mar. 21 to April 19)
As the most aggressive, competitive, and ambitious sign, Aries are fierce and fearless. I’m an Aries, and I live with five other Aries—I’m an expert. It’s only appropriate I recommend my favourite book to all my aggressive little fire signs out there: Barbara Kingsolver’s The Bean Trees, a beautiful tale of female independence and unexpected motherhood.
Taurus (April 20 to May 20)
If you love all things sensual, sweet, and emotional, you need to read The Secret Life of Bees, anotherone of my favourites. Sue Monk Kid’s book is an enchanting and heartbreakingly gorgeous novel about a young girl who navigates segregation, maternal love, and honey-making during the 60’s in South Carolina.
Gemini (May 21 to June 20)
Gemini, this one’s for you: J.D Salinger’s kinetic Franny and Zooey, which follows an eccentric and somewhat irritatingly well-read brother and sister. This novel is both hilarious, moving, and spiritual—a must-read for energetic Geminis.
Cancer (June 21 to July 22)
Cancers are sensitive, compassionate, and empathetic, just like Jessi Kirby’s Things, We Know by Heart. The book tells the story of one woman’s unique quest for the owner of her dead boyfriend’s heart and her journey through grief.
Leo (July 23 to Aug. 22)
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Americana is a stunning tale of romantic and familial love across ethnicities, races, and national identities. This is a satisfyingly adventurous novel of feminine growth and strength, perfect for you, fiery Leos.
Virgo (Aug. 23 to Sept. 22)
For the pragmatic and down-to-earth Virgos, I have to suggest another one of Barbara Kingsolver’s novels. Her Prodigal Summer gracefully intertwines the mating patterns of moths and insects with four stunning stories of love and redemption.
Libra (Sept. 23 to Oct. 22)
I urge you cozy, level-headed Libras to read Kent Haruf’s Plainsong. Set in the High Plains of Denver, this novel follows several different storylines and familial issues only to bind them together seamlessly at the end. This novel is sweet, tormenting, but satisfying.
Scorpio (Oct. 23 to Nov. 21)
Taylor Jenkins Reid’s The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was written for a bold, mysterious Scorpio. Popular for a reason, this fabulous novel of forbidden love and acceptance keeps you on your toes the entire time.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 to Dec. 21)
Sagittarius, you are adventure-seeking and courageous and would therefore love Hunter S. Thomson’s The Rum Diary, which follows a young writer’s drunken romp through San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Capricorn (Dec. 22 to Jan. 19)
Sally Thorne’s The Hating Game is a saucy, enemies-to-lovers novel about a workplace romance. A perfect treat for the work-oriented focused Capricorns.
Aquarius (Jan. 20 to Feb. 18)
Clever, optimistic, calm, and sensitive, Aquarius folks will adore Antione Lauran’s delicate and thoughtful The Red Notebook, a quick read that feels like sipping a cappuccino on a balmy Parisian morning.
Pisces (Feb. 19 to Mar. 20)
The Immoralists, by Chloe Benjamin, follows a young Jewish family who pays a psychic to predict the day of their deaths, which you empathetic and psychic Pisces will adore.
