The AMS has hired Tyler Lively, ArtSci ’16, as Academic Affairs Commissioner following the Oct. 15 resignation of Read Leask.
Leask, ArtSci ’17, resigned due to person reasons. Sarah Letersky, vice president (university affairs), assumed the portfolio in the interim.
The Academic Affairs Commissioner oversees AMS academic services, including the Academic Grievance Centre, and lobbies the Queen’s administration and other groups on issues related to academics.
Lively currently oversees the Tricolour Outlet and the Publishing & Copy Centre as the AMS Retail Services Director.
Last year, Lively served on the AMS Board of Directors, which oversees the finances and long-term strategic planning for the AMS.
In an AMS press release, Letersky stated that Lively has demonstrated an ability to “understand nuanced academic issues, liaise with senior administration, and advocate for students at all levels of decisionmaking.”
According to the release, the organization will not be hiring a new Retail Services Director.
Instead, the role of Retail Services Director will be amalgamated into the portfolio of the Vice President (Operations) Kyle Beaudry for the 2015-2016 academic year.
Lively won’t be replaced as Retail Services Service Director due to changes to the structure of AMS services.
These changes included the exit of student radio station CFRC from the AMS and the amalgamation of Convocation Services, Queen’s TV and Yearbook & Design Services into Studio Q.
The AMS will conduct a “thorough review” of the roles and portfolios of all Service Directors in the upcoming year, according to the release.
Lively will still play a role in the Retail Services portfolio during the transition period, including “delivering the Retail Services presentation to the Corporate Special General Meeting” on Nov. 10, the release stated.
