With the Kingston region officially transitioning to the green zone on Wednesday, the ARC is beginning a phased reopening starting Thursday.
While the Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox and Addington (KFL&A) region is returning to its pre-lockdown guidelines, Queen’s Athletics and Recreation (A&R) is incorporating stricter regulations this time around.
When gym-goers enter the ARC, they’ll be required to wear masks at all times, including during workouts. Guests were previously allowed to take off their masks for cardio activities.
As well, along with asking those presenting symptoms, members are being asked to not enter the ARC if they have recently returned from outside the region and have not completed a 14-day isolation period. A&R is also asking those waiting for COVID-19 test results or under a public health recommendation to quarantine due to a potential exposure to refrain from using the facilities.
Barring an outbreak of COVID-19 prompting the provincial government to use its “emergency brake” system, the ARC will return to operations in a five-phase reopening structure.
On Thursday, Feb. 11, the ARC will open to Queen’s students only with reduced hours and intramural registration will open. Next Tuesday, Feb. 16, staff and faculty will also be able to book reservations and personal trainers will be available.
Starting Monday, Feb. 22, reservations will open to all ARC members, hours will be extended, group fitness classes will resume, and the Q-Sports Medicine Clinic and Q-Shop will reopen. Individual intramurals will also start.
Finally, on Sunday Feb. 28, team intramurals will start, and on March 1 the ARC pool will reopen.
Entry to the ARC continues to be situated off Earl St., and “pods” must be booked in advance. Members will have to show their reservation confirmation, daily SeQure app COVID self-assessment verification, and ARC membership card.
