ASUS elects AMS, year reps

The Arts and Science Undergraduate Society executive welcomed a few new faces this week.

Elections for ASUS representatives to the AMS, ’07 and ’09 year society presidents and vice presidents were held on Oct. 2, 3 and 4.

Stephanie Kenny, Jeffery Nichols, Radha Tailor and Sarah Whitmore were the four candidates who ran unopposed and were confirmed as ASUS representatives.

Katherine Ferreira was confirmed as the ’07 year society president, with Melissa Grosser confirmed as the society VP.

Ken Zolotar was elected as the ’09 year society president, with Hussein Kudrati elected as VP to the year society.

Brooks Barnett and Patrick Cooke were also running for ’09 year society president, while Kyle Chatterson and Jessica Hallis ran for ’09 year society VP.

Kyle Abrey, ASUS internal affairs commissioner, said voter turnout was what he expected.

“It is the fall elections so it has a lower turnout than the winter election,” he said.

Abrey said the total voter turnout was 536 ASUS members, of whom 378 were from among the class of ’09. ASUS has approximately 8,000 members eligible to vote.

“I think the ’09 turnout was pretty good—we had a lot of interest in the Vic Hall polling station,” he said. “We really tried to target the first-years in this election.”
