The consistent scoring of forward Victoria Kaufmann led the Queen’s women to a deep run in the playoffs. After a 19-10-2-1 record in the regular season, the Gaels defeated Waterloo in the quarterfinals with a 3-1 win, in which Kaufmann contributed a goal. She followed that game with a twogoal performance in the team’s 2-1 semifinal win over Toronto to earn a spot in the finals.
“The team just came out flying, and Toronto beat us last year so we didn’t want it to happen again,” Kaufmann said. Queen’s was defeated 5-1 in the final by Laurier, the second-ranked team in the country. Kaufmann scored the lone marker for the Gaels.
“We came out flat while they came out on fire, and by the time we started playing our game, it was
too late.” The second-year player had 10 points in 24 games in the regular season and she said the reason for her continued offence strength in the playoffs was simple. “I wanted to win and I had the
opportunity to put the puck in the net.” She said it’s always disappointing to come up short, but she has high hopes for next year for the young team.
“I hope that most of the team stays together because we have really good chemistry and we hope to win next year.”
