Announcement made with respect to John Orr and An Clachan

Two hours into a meeting with Queen’s Community Housing and the Queen’s Community Housing Residents Association, Queen’s announced community housing rent will increase 31.5 per cent—on top of the previously announced increase—over the next three years.

The announcement on March 6 was made by Leah Wales, executive director (housing and ancillary services), after over two hours of back and forth questioning between community housing tenants and representatives from Queen’s Community Housing.

The changes to rent rates was a recommendation given to the University’s Senior Administration from Queen’s Community Housing.

The University previously announced a 10.5 per cent rent increase for the 2024-25 academic year and new rental policies that would fix rental terms to the standard length of academic programs.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
