In less than a week, I’ll be boarding a plane at Pearson Airport. Seven hours later, I’ll be in the UK, ready to start my year abroad at Durham University. It isn’t far away, but it’s an experience I’ve been anticipating for a long time.
My desire to study abroad started years ago, but it only became palpable last September when I attended the Queen’s Go Abroad Fair.

Barbequed meat and microbrewed beer make a tasty combination. This was the showcase at Kingston’s Ribfest and Craft Beer Show which celebrated its second year from Sept. 5-7.
Many Kingston locals were drawn by the free admission, but this year’s festival also provided the option to make charitable donations at the door, with proceeds going toward the Partners in Mission Food Bank.

With vocals that seem both soothing and angry, and a togetherness that makes their sound effective at evoking both nostalgia and cheer, Toronto-based band NQ Arbuckle’s latest album The Future Happens Anyway is a hidden treasure within the country-rock genre.

Timber Timbre’s dark musicality isn’t the only thing that sets them apart.

Anticipation. Nervousness. Excitement. These were the three overwhelming bundle of emotions I felt all summer before embarking on my trip to England in September.

As I sat in my seat waiting for the plane to take off, reality sank in.
“I am spending two semesters abroad in Paris,” I thought as passengers shuffled past me to their seats.
Soon, the plane began to make its way down the runway, with the safety video playing on the small screen in front of me. I just sat there ― terrified.

Kingston held its fifth annual Multicultural Arts Festival (KMAF) at Confederation Park on Sunday, a refreshing event abundant with food, music and community booths of all kinds.

It took a few years for four Quebecers to take the leap from music-obsessed garage-dwellers to the band known as Cardboard Crowns.

Timber Timbre, a dark and intense Canadian folk-music band, is taking a more eccentric approach to their sound in their latest album Hot Dreams.

This year’s mystery frosh week concert featured popular indie acts Plants and Animals, Hollerado and The New Pornographers. Despite their popularity, the performances were met with mixed reviews from the audience, who hoped for a more energy-inducing electro lineup.

When life gives you lemons, make lemon squares.
This tasty dessert recipe has been in my family for a long time and is a staple at our dinners. It’s so good that I always request it instead of cake on my birthday. In a world full of chocolate and vanilla flavoured desserts, a lemon-based treat is a refreshing change.

Canadian author Lawrence Hill’s novel The Book of Negroes is an enlightening work that documents the journey of a young girl sold into slavery after being abducted from her village in West Africa.
With the riots and racial tensions that have recently occurred in Ferguson and throughout the United States, this novel clearly addresses themes still relevant in today’s society.
Hill titled his novel after a document kept during the American Revolutionary War.

Every year, millions of kids across North America dread the arrival of September, when they have to return to yet another school year.
But for your typical North American diehard sports fan, July and August represent two of the worst months of the year for athletic competition, and the arrival of September symbolizes the beginning of a new frontier.

The idea of going on exchange first crossed my mind last October. Since then it has been a very long and arduous process involving lots of meltdowns, paperwork and meltdowns involving paperwork (the details of which I won’t bore you with here).
When it was finally time to leave and embark on this amazing journey, I didn’t feel as excited as I expected to — mostly because I just couldn’t believe it was finally happening.

In the fashion world, September is synonymous with style. All the best fashion magazine issues are released, bringing forward the start of the much-anticipated, yet fleeting fall season.
For those of us whose summer jobs came with a uniform, September also brings the freedom to choose what we’ll wear.

The current outbreak of Ebola virus in West Africa is one of the largest deadly virus outbreaks in history. Fortunately, the chances of the virus coming to Canada are slim.

The Primetime Emmy Awards are my fourth favourite awards show. In order they rank: the Oscars (naturally), the Golden Globes, the Tonys and then the Emmys.
This list is in large part related to the number of musical numbers usually included in each show and the likelihood that something crazy will happen, like Beyoncé leading a chorus line or Ellen DeGeneres sharing pizza with Meryl Streep.
