This year Taylor Swift became an icon — and she’s ready for it.
Icons are rarely created accidentally. They’re manufactured through a slow deliberate project of branding, creation and intuitive marketing. In other words, you have to be smart.
Much of pop iconicism is about embodying “the times” and Swift, with her cat-filled Instagram, trendy wardrobe and — though I hate the word — adorkable persona feels emblematic of the self-conscious Internet era in which we live.

With the onset of fall, the temperature starts to dip and days become shorter. Having a wardrobe adequately prepared to face the season will certainly aid in the chilly transition.
Fortunately, fall weather allows for an assortment of accessories. Finding a balance between classic styles and new trends is often the best approach to piecing together fall outfits.

Running from the Sept. 11-14, the 184th Kingston Fall Fair showcased some of the best horseback riders, lawn tractor racers, country singers and giant sunflower growers that Kingston has to offer, with more events and competitions than you could shake a proverbial stick at.
I have to admit that I’ve never been the biggest “country” boy. I grew up in a crowded suburb, I rode a bike as a kid instead of a tractor and chickens kind of freak me out.

With a particular focus on nature, fairy tales and the secrecy of the human mind, artist Rebecca Cowan’s series Nymphs – New Works in Mixed Media is the epitome of thought-provoking art.

With Homecoming soon approaching, now is the perfect time to get back into the Queen’s spirit by making your own pair of tricolour shorts. It’s a great way to add our school’s colours to any wardrobe and avoid spending big bucks on a pair of Queen’s shorts that you plan to drag though the chaos and mayhem that is HoCo.

Back to school can be an exciting time for many. But for others, the return to Queen’s means a return to living alone as an independent adult. And for those of you no longer coasting on the easy waters of a meal plan, that means one thing — it’s time to start cooking.

Well, it’s that time of year again. As the leaves slowly start to change around campus, fall becomes the perfect opportunity to bundle up, put on some Netflix, and take advantage of the delicious fall harvest.
My favourite part about fall (and every season for that matter), is the familiar scents and tastes that
accompany the season. If you’re a fan of Starbucks’ infamous pumpkin spice latte, you’ll adore these muffins.

Solo-acoustic artist Jonas Lewis-Anthony, who goes by the name “Wendigo Jo”, is no stranger to the ups and downs of being a musician trying to “make it” in the business.

Artist Derek Sullivan is looking to break the bond between image and experience.

The Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts held an open house for students on Saturday, celebrating the launch of a number of arts series and performances that the building offers.

Every Sunday, vendors set up shop in Springer Market Square for Kingston’s weekly Antique Market, where local residents are given the opportunity to form a unique appreciation of vintage art forms that they wouldn’t generally see on a day-to-day basis.

A new school year has begun, bringing with it the very busy and somewhat stressful student life. It can be hard to find time to make meals that are both satisfying and nutritious when we’re preoccupied with academics, extracurriculars and part-time jobs.
In the midst of all this activity, it’s easy to resort to eating foods like Kraft Dinner or Mr. Noodles every night because they take little time and effort to prepare. Lucky for you, there are easy and quick alternatives available to replace those less healthy choices.

Whether you worked out all summer to stay in beach bod shape or took some time off to deal with the summer job grind, back to school time means back to your Kingston fitness routine. Some of you may already be mentally grumbling about the huge line-ups for the machines at the ARC.

This fall, over 200 new students will burst onto the Queen’s athletic scene. First year is a guaranteed challenge, but toss in daily training plus weekly travel to games, and first-year Gaels have their work cut out for them.
As a member of the Queen’s Cross Country team, I know what it’s like to try and balance all your commitments. Here are some tips so you don’t find yourself stumbling at the first hurdle.
It’s okay to admit you’re tired.

It’s taken me a long time to embrace my curly hair. In high school, I did everything short of actually straightening my hair to make it straighter. I brushed it out constantly, I slept with it in a ponytail — the only reason I didn’t turn to an actual straightener was pure laziness.

Through the recommendation of a friend and some rushed visa paperwork, I got the chance to live and work in London this summer as a reservations and reception assistant in a bed and breakfast.
Working in the tourism and hospitality sector in a foreign city means I’m both tour guide and tourist at the same time.

Last week, I embarked on an experiment — I’ve been honest. And not just run-of-the-mill, ordinary honest. I’ve been radically honest.
Radical honesty is a technique that was developed by Dr. Brad Blanton, an American clinical psychologist. The idea is that you not only abstain from lying, but you volunteer even those truths that you might otherwise conceal or omit.
