AMS Assembly officially approved two teams for AMS executive and two candidates for Undergraduate Trustee Friday evening on Zoom.

Though today is the first official day of the campaign for Undergraduate Trustee candidates, Seyon Shelvachandren said he’s “procrastinating” on his campaign.

The candidates that make up Team RTZ are coming from an outside perspective—not one of them has been directly involved with the AMS in their prior years at Queen’s.Team RTZ consists of Presidential candidate Zaid Kasim, Sci ’21, Vice-Presidential (Operations) candidate Tiana Wong, ArtSci ’21, and Vice-Presidential candidate (University Affairs) Ryan Sieg, Kin ’21.In an interview with The Journal, Kasim said he’s running for AMS President because of his frustration with the organization. 

Should they be elected next year’s AMS executive, Team TIA has plans to improve accessibility at Queen’s.

Following the election of the Residence Society (ResSoc) President for the 2021-22 school year, two candidates are now competing for the position of ResSoc Vice-President of Judicial Affairs.

Christina Bisol, Sci ’22, is running uncontested to be the next Engineering Society (EngSoc) President.

In the most contested Society election this year, candidates Kaija Edwards, Brian Seo, Sylvie Asija, and Rein Tiisler discussed their platforms for Engineering Society Vice-President of Student Affairs (VPSA) with The Journal.

This weekend, substantial majorities elected two societies’ future executives, with one team winning for the second time.

As voting closed Tuesday, a 30.1 per cent turnout rate elected next year’s student leaders. 

Presidential candidates faced off at the executive open forum on Friday for their final confrontation before the Jan. 28 to 29 elections.

ResSoc has restarted its executive election following the nullification of results on Jan. 23.

For the second year in a row, the AMS hosted a forum for uncontested executive candidates. 

On Friday night, CESA candidate teams RAY and Illuminate pitched similar platform points at the Association’s executive debate.
