Running uncontested for vice-president (student affairs), Brooks, a second-year cognitive computer science specialization student, looks to tackle disengagement through more direct discussion.
In pursuit of that goal, he chose the position interacts with students more than the other executive positions.
“I believe that COMPSA’s role as a student government is to advocate for students and work in their better interests, and I want to see this done in the best way possible,” he wrote to The Journal in a statement.
“COMPSA is supposed to represent the entire Computing student body; however, right now it only represents a small portion.”
To better engage students, Brooks plans to increase COMPSA’s social media presence through new marketing research roles, as well as having year representatives visit more classes. He additionally wants to create a role dedicated to collecting feedback from COMPSA students.
The final point of his platform is to advocate for dedicated study spaces for undergraduate Computing students.
“While there are plans for some in the new JDUC, I am most focused on the needs of Computing students in the present and their need for an accessible space to go to while on campus, either to study, relax, or connect with other students,” Brooks wrote.
