In a news release on Wednesday, David Scott from the College Employer Council said the negotiations regarding the current Ontario Colleges strike will resume Thursday, Nov. 2.
After the Ontario Public Services Employees Union (OPSEU) and faculty failed to reach an agreement on Oct. 16, Ontario colleges went on strike. Since both sides have yet to come to an agreement, over 300,000 students have been left in limbo about their academic future.
In the news release, the Chair of the Colleges’ Bargaining Team Sonia Del Missier said, “[t]his strike has gone on for too long.” “We need to end the strike and get our students and faculty back in the classroom. We can reach a settlement quickly and have classes start again early next week. We will focus our efforts at the table and work very hard to reach a deal that ends the strike.”
According to President and Executive Director of the St. Lawrence College student association, Beth Insley, issues that have been raised by faculty include, “wage increases, job security, part-time and full-time employee ratios and academic decision making processes.”
