Friday night of Homecoming weekend wasn’t as raucous as police had feared, said police spokesman Const. Mike Menor.
“On the whole it was fairly quiet,” he said. “I think it was because of the cool temperatures.”
The temperature came close to freezing Friday night. Menor contrasted that with last year’s Homecoming, which saw thousands of partiers outside both Friday and Saturday nights.
“At this time last year, we were in September–the temperatures were nice and warm,” he said. “It is a factor. It has to be.
“It [was] definitely busier last year, but it was a month earlier.”
As of Saturday morning, police had arrested 22 people for public intoxication and had handed out 115 tickets for open alcohol.
Cars were damaged on Cooper Street and Victoria Street, but Menor said besides that it was a quiet night.
Tonight, hundreds of officers from Kingston, the Ontario Provincial Police and the Toronto Police are patrolling the Ghetto.
