‘In the event that significant community COVID-19 spread occurs within the Queen’s community […] in-person classes will pivot to remote teaching and learning’

Queen’s releases Continuity of Education Plan.

On Sept. 13, Queen’s released the Continuity of Education Plan (CEP) which details the university’s emergency protocols, information on continuity of education in the event of a disruption to in-person teaching and learning, and links to relevant resources.

“Developed with input from Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington (KFL&A) Public Health, the Continuity of Education Plan outlines key guidance for faculty, staff, and students should COVID-19 cases be identified, and how teaching and learning is to adjust,” the CEP states.

The Plan highlights policies and procedures surrounding symptom self-assessment and disruptions to in-person teaching and learning.

“In the event that significant community COVID-19 spread occurs within the Queen’s community, as assessed and directed by KFL&A Public Health, all in-person classes will pivot to remote teaching and learning,” the CEP states.

“The Incident Command Team, along with the university’s public health advisors, will determine the appropriate response, fulfilling any recommendations made by the medical officer of health, to ensure a coordinated and centralized response.”

Currently, the university holds that those who “have not received their final required dose of vaccine or have not received an accommodation under the Ontario Human Rights Code by Oct. 15 will not be allowed to participate in any in-person university activity.

As of Sept. 10, Queen’s has reported that 96 per cent of employees and 94 per cent of student’s report being fully vaccinated. A total of 32,000 individuals affiliated with the institution have declared their vaccine status.

Queen’s is also reporting the number of cases linked to the university through its website.
