Bingo, drag, and raunchy humour lit up The Grad Club last Tuesday evening.
On Nov. 18, CFRC 101.9 FM hosted a Drag Queen Bingo Night at The Grad Club, offering an evening of comedy, prizes, and drag performance in support of the station’s annual Funding Drive. Miss Tyffanie Morgan, a Kingston-based drag artist, hosted the event and kept the room raucous throughout the night.
While the fundraiser was lightly attended, the crowd that did show up brought enthusiasm to every round. Attendees chatted between games, cheered for each other’s wins, and responded eagerly to Morgan’s humour. The smaller turnout created an intimate, relaxed environment where guests felt free to joke along, call out their cards, and enjoy the campy pace of the night.
Morgan performed several comedic live drag numbers between rounds, turning the Grad Club floor into a miniature stage. Her lip-syncs, improvised humour, and spirited interactions with audience members kept the energy consistently high, even as the night moved toward its later rounds. The musical numbers became a highlight of the evening and drew cheers each time she stepped into performance.
Morgan explains that drag fundraising is a familiar part of her work. “Every year I do a holiday spice drag show fundraiser for Rainbow Railroad,” she said in an interview with The Journal. “We’ve had a lot of fun trying to raise some money for [charity].”
CFRC, which has broadcast from Queen’s for more than a century, relies on community support during its annual drive. “Most of the time when it comes to fundraising, it’s just getting the word out there,” Morgan said. “And just spreading the word about CFRC, too. It supports such a wide variety, a wide cast of our community here.”
Morgan said returning to the station as a performer and fundraiser felt meaningful. “Being able to share my story of being part of the CFRC story, and then also fundraising for them as well, it’s a good feeling,” she explained.
When asked how she maintained her momentum and comedic spirit throughout the night, Morgan laughed. “Hopefully they were good jokes,” she said. “It’s called caffeine—keeping that energy up is called caffeine.”
She added that the exchange of energy between performer and audience played a big role. “When you’re performing on stage, you’re giving everything on the stage, but you’re also feeling that energy coming back too,” she said. “So that’s definitely today.”
The fundraiser wrapped up just after 9 p.m., with attendees lingering to chat and congratulate winners before heading back out into the November cold.
While the event’s scale was small, its spirit reflected the kind of grassroots engagement CFRC has long relied on—community members showing up, participating, and making space for one another.
