The Queen’s Engineering Society (EngSoc) announced July 6 that former Vice-President (Student Affairs, VPSA) Pranav Velpandi, Sci ’27, had resigned from the role.
In a statement to The Journal, Stephie Leitch, president of EngSoc, said Velpandi resigned for personal reasons and would be traveling home to be with family.
Leitch added Velpandi decided resigning was the best decision for him.
Velpandi did not respond when contacted by The Journal.
While the position remained vacant, EngSoc’s three remaining executives divided oversight of the VPSA portfolio to ensure responsibilities continued, Leitch said.
Under EngSoc By-Law 3.J, vacant elected positions must be normally filled through a by-election conducted as similarly as possible to the original election. However, if a by-election is impractical or impossible, EngSoc Council may elect a replacement.
After determining that a by-election was not feasible because the timeline required to fill the position did not align with the time needed to organize a vote during the summer, council voted.
“With the fact that the student body is not in person, it [did] not make sense to do so,” Leitch said.
Council elected Madeline Provost, who was uncontested, as its new VPSA on July 13. Provost also ran for the position in the original election.

Leitch said the remaining executives have encouraged students with questions or feedback about the transition to contact their discipline club representative, year executive, or one of the three remaining members of the executive team.
“We wish the best to Pranav in all his future endeavours,” Leitch wrote.
