Students gave a clean sweep to all 10 fees on this fall’s referendum ballot.
On Nov. 19, the AMS released Nov. 12 to 14 Fall Referendum results on their website. According to the release, student turnout was 14.6 per cent, a 2.7-point increase compared to last year’s Fall Referendum. Ten fees were on the ballot, all of which passed, including the renewal of seven opt-outable fees, two increases in mandatory fees, and one new opt-outable fee.
As for the mandatory fees, the AMS Food Bank fee rose from $4 to $5.50, while the Queen’s First Aid fee increased from $3.75 to $4.25. Voters supported the changes with 67.7 per cent and 66.5 per cent approval, respectively.
Queen’s Students 4 Special Olympics, Queen’s Bridge Building Team, Project Sunshine Queen’s Chapter, Queen’s EngiQueers, SWAM Kingston, CFRC 101.9 FM, and Kingston Canadian Film Festival all had their optional fees renewed. CFRC 101.9 FM saw the closest margin in their approval with just 52.8 per cent support.
Queen’s Pinoy Association was the only new fee established, with 66.6 per cent of voters supporting the establishment of a 10 per cent opt-outable fee.
Queen’s Chess Club’s proposed 5-cent increase in their fee didn’t appear on the ballot after failing to attend the approval Assembly on Nov. 3.
