Four Queen’s alumni to receive honorary degrees this fall

This Thursday, the University announced that four honorary degrees will be distributed at convocation ceremonies this fall. Recipients include an engineer, an astronaut, a TV director, and a playwright and actor, all of whom are Queen’s alumni.

Carol Ann Budd, Sci ’89, earned her degree in engineering chemistry, and now works as a professional engineer and financial consultant. In the past, she served as co-chair of the Ban Righ Foundation board of directors, and she currently volunteers on the Queen’s Aboriginal Council. Her ceremony will take place on Nov. 15 at 2:30 p.m. 

Andrew Feustel completed his PhD at Queen’s in geology in ’95. Feustel is an astronaut with NASA and a veteran of two spaceflights, and he is scheduled to fly to the International Space Station on the Soyuz 54 launch vehicle in March 2018. His ceremony will take place on Nov. 16 at 2:30 p.m. 

Michelle MacLaren, ArtSci ’86, earned her degree from Queen’s in film. MacLaren is a director, producer, and executive producer of several acclaimed television series, including Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and Westworld. She has received two Emmys for her work on Breaking Bad, among other awards. The ceremony will take place on Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. 

Judith Thompson, ArtSci ’77, received her degree from Queen’s in drama. Thompson is now a playwright, director, actor, a professor of Theatre Studies at the University of Guelph, and the artistic director of RARE Theatre Company. Her ceremony will commence on Nov. 17 at 2:30 p.m.
