The top of OUA standings will be decided after Saturday.

Queen’s Football will travel down Highway 401 to take on the undefeated Western Mustangs on Oct. 3. The Gaels, also with a record of 4-0, will try to maintain the undefeated season and leap past the Mustangs in the U SPORTS ranking, with the Gaels ranked fourth and the Mustangs ranked third.

The Mustangs are coming off a victory over the previous 4-0 McMaster Marauders, coming out on top in a 32-25 game. They are the most explosive offence in the OUA ranking first in points, yards per game, and rushing yards per game.

The Gaels took care of business at home this past week, with a 41-20 victory against the University of Ottawa GeeGees.

In a media availability, Head Coach Steve Snyder understands the importance of the game, but wants to keep his team’s focus is on themselves.

“We want to make sure our mind and body’s ready to play and execute our best stuff,” Snyder said. “We don’t need to try to do too much and not get caught up in anything else.”

The historically rivalry between Queen’s and Western has gone the Mustang’s way every time since 2012. Snyder is focused on the task at hand and the opportunity on Saturday.

“It’s the biggest test of the year so far, we’ve had some battles leading up to this point, but this one stands out.”

Touching on the OUA as a whole, Snyder commented on the leagues competitiveness.

“The conference seems close and extremely balanced,” Snyder said. “I think teams that are able to stay healthy and continue to get better and develop themselves, and get on a bit of a roll, I think that’s what it’s going to be all about.

In the same media availability, Gaels kicker Tyler Mullan, ArtSci ’27, spoke about going into a big game on the road.

“Everyone go out there and do their jobs and execute, I think if we do that we’ll be in a pretty good spot.”

In the game against the GeeGees, Mullan broke the Queen’s Football record for longest field goal made in team history, he talked about how special that moment was.

“It was a big kick and it’s been pretty cool to be out there for those long field goals and execute feels pretty good.”

The Gaels will look to continue their strong three phases play at Western Alumni Stadium on Oct. 3; kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
