Hogg named new CFO

The University has hired its first-ever Chief Financial Officer and Associate Vice Principal (Finance), Daniel Hogg, who reported to work for the first time on Monday.

“[He is] responsible for the financial management of the University,” said Andrew Simpson, vice-principal (operations and finance). “This includes the overall financial strategy, the financial operation, financial systems, financial planning and budgeting.”

Simpson said the key reason the new position was created was to merge the many aspects of financial management at the University.

He said he doesn’t expect the new CFO and associate vice principal (finance) position to have a direct impact on students.

“I don’t think students will be affected by this appointment, except to say we’re trying to provide improved delivery of financial services, broadly defined, across the University,” he said.

Hogg, who reports to Simpson, said his role in the University is to consolidate some of the organizations in financial services.

Hogg is moving from Mississauga to Kingston and said he accepted the job with the University for a variety of reasons.

“I [accepted it for] the challenge it presented, the changes in the higher education field, as well as the prestige of the institution,” he said.

Hogg said prior to his position at Queen’s, he worked for 19 years at Unisys Canada, an information technology company. For the last nine of those years, he was employed as vice-president of finance within the company. Simpson would not reveal Hogg’s salary.
