Billie the Kid is a K’ai Taile Dené and Nehiyaw spoken word poet and storyteller. Originally from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, she currently resides in Kingston, Ontario, the traditional home of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples. Drawing inspiration from poets such as Ian Keteku, Janice Jo Lee, and Billy-Ray Belcourt, her poetry breathes life into narratives as she explores relationships with family, friends, food, and the dynamic nature of dreams.
Billie holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from Queen’s and has performed at events across Turtle Island such as the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word, and most recently, the first ever no-rules online edition of the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam, where she took second place. Billie is currently one of the directors of Voices of Today, a national poetry festival for youth, run by youth.
