The season may barely be underway, but one Gael has wasted no time rewriting the U Sports record books.

On Nov. 7, recent transfer Kiayra Letlow, MSc’25, broke the U Sports career rebound record with a total of 1,182 rebounds in 78 season games, surpassing Sarah Crooks at the University of Saskatchewan with 1,181 rebounds in 102 season games. Letlow previously broke the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) record for career rebounds, 1,022, in women’s basketball in January of this year.

Letlow’s milestone also places her among a small group of U Sports athletes to break a national career record within fewer than 80 games, underscoring the pace at which she’s accumulated rebounds since entering the league. Her efficiency on the boards—currently averaging more than 11 rebounds per game—has been a key factor in her rapid climb up both conference and national leaderboards.

“It’s a really big deal, it just goes to show the amount of work that’s been put into her game,” said Queen’s women’s basketball head coach, Claire Meadows, in an article published by Queen’s Athletics and Recreation. “If you look at the other individuals that surround her on that list, it’s a huge compliment to her and what she’s been able to accomplish,” she said.

Since the record has been broken, Letlow and the Gael’s have received a considerable amount of coverage, with the OUA posting a video titled “A new name is making waves in the #OUA. Kiyara Letlow etched herself into the record books this past weekend, breaking the U SPORTS all-time rebounds record.”

Letlow’s sure to keep the tally climbing, as the Gael’s are freshly starting their 2025-26 season, leaving the forward lots of chances to bring up her rebound total.

The Journal reached out to both Letlow and Meadows for an interview, but didn’t hear back in time for publication.
