Kingston Police were called to a party in the University District over the weekend that had between 35 and 40 people in attendance.
According to Kingston Police, the party was located in a backyard on William Street.
On Sept. 19, the provincial government limited gatherings to 25 people outside and 10 people inside.
Kingston Police said the host of the party received a Reopening Ontario Act charge for hosting a party that surpassed the province’s restrictions. This violation has a minimum fine of $10,000.

While Kingston Police confirmed the host was fined under the act, it didn’t specify how much they were fined.
Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox and Addington (KFL&A) Public Health also confirmed at least five cases of COVID-19 were linked to a single house party that took place in the University District on Sept. 18.

The party, which was hosted in the 500-block of Johnson Street, was attended by at least 40 people.
Though the University said students can expect to be held accountable by the Student Code of Conduct for violating any municipal, provincial, or federal laws—including COVID-19 protocol—it didn’t confirm whether the Code of Conduct would be applied in these cases when The Journal inquired.
“The University will not comment on specific cases or the outcomes of individual student conduct processes,” the University wrote in a statement to The Journal on Tuesday. “The University is working with our community partners on enforcing public health guidelines. We will review any incident where charges or tickets have been issued that involve our students disregarding public health orders to determine any further action through our student conduct process.”
The University has been made aware of 20 cases of COVID-19 in the Queen’s community since Aug. 31. There have been no new cases reported through the University’s tracker this week.
