Standing outside Undergraduate Student Trustee Michael Ceci’s house party in the wee hours of this morning, where his team was celebrating their AMS executive win, Morgan Campbell found out she won 56 per cent of student votes to become next year’s undergraduate student trustee.
Campbell spent most of the evening at AMS executive candidate team MAP’s house party before leaving at 3 a.m. to head over to Ceci’s party.
Since orientation week in September, Campbell has known she wanted to be trustee.
Campbell, who was a Gael, said she picked out first-year students from her frosh group she thought would help her campaign and asked them to volunteer.
Campbell’s campaign co-manager Nick Day, ArtSci ’09, said the debate helped raise her profile and got people out to vote.
“We all stayed positive throughout,” he said.
Elamin Abdelmahmoud, Campbell’s campaign co-manager and ArtSci ’09, said the other trustee candidate Gary Yeung, Comm ’11 and ArtSci ’12, was a strong competitor.
“Gary made it a classy campaign,” he said.
At Yeung’s house, 15 guests kept the party alive until Commissioner of Internal Affairs Alexa Gendron-O’Donnell called to say he lost with 38 per cent of students’ votes.
Before volunteers left the house, Yeung’s platform manager Jamie Walker, ArtSci ’11, said they should be proud of the campaign __they ran.
“Guys, we all put in our effort and it’s not like we didn’t try,” Walker said. “So, group hug.”
Yeung said he’s happy team CYZ and Campbell won.
“Morgan’s a great person and if she looks out for all the student body, she’ll be fine.”
