Ed Sheeran is releasing a documentary in May.

I can’t stand sitting idly by for hours in the sun doing absolutely nothing, unlike some. For my own entertainment—and hopefully yours as well—I’ve compiled a list of incoming summer shows to keep your mind occupied this summer.

Here are some of the most anticipated summer show releases.

Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All

On May 3, Disney+ is releasing a docuseries on Ed Sheeran, the British pop singer who unexpectedly dazzled the world with only a guitar, loop pedal, and a pleasant singing voice. The Grammy winning singer is known for his soft dance beats and sappy love songs.

This documentary will explore more than just his progression in his career. The trailer for this series anticipates a discussion of love, loss, grief, and how it can affect one’s career, giving Sheeran fans a better look at the singer they all idolize.

Marvel’s Secret Invasion

Phase Four of the Marvel universe has resulted in some contentious releases. Post Endgame, it’s been difficult for Marvel to keep up the hype, produce the same quality content, and bring in the same number of views. Nevertheless, it hasn’t stopped them from trying, and Marvel’s newest mini-series shows some promise.

Starring Samuel L. Jackson—finally taking the lead in a Marvel project—this series will take a darker tone than most Marvel projects. Jackson takes his character Nick Fury through a journey of deception and mistrust as the character deals with the incoming invasion of shapeshifting aliens.

Taking inspiration from the comic storyline of the same name, the trailer for Secret Invasion shows some promise, now operating in an established world and featuring an all-star cast of scene-stealing side characters that now take centre stage. Cobie Smulders and newcomer Emelia Clark fill out the cast of this show.

It’s set for a June 21 release on Disney+.

XO, Kitty

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before took the world by storm with its heart-warming romance and charming characters. Now, one of these charming characters is coming back with her own series. Starting on May 18, Anna Cathcart is reprising her role as the youngest Covey, Kitty, in a romcom series for Netflix.

After discovering a box of her late mother’s old things, Kitty decides to take the leap and apply to an elite private school in South Korea to feel more connected to her mom and closer to her long-distance boyfriend.

The show promises all the cute charm and colourful bright visuals of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, which will uplift viewers. This is especially true for Queen’s students who are feeling the rainy May blues right after exam season.

It looks like a fun cute romcom that’s perfect to start off the summer.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

Bridgerton started off strong, with a diverse cast and interesting premise and continues to impress.

This romance series exists the way it does thanks to the backstory that supports the show’s worldbuilding—namely, the marriage of Queen Charlotte and King George. This event changed the world of the show significantly, making way for the society Bridgerton is all about.

With great interest in the show came curiosity about this pivotal love story, and thus, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgeton Story was born. Veering a little bit away from Bridgerton’s usual format, this limited series is based on the King and Queen’s betrothal, engagement, and challenges at the beginning of their marriage.

Like the rest of the series, it’s sure to bring all the romance we’re used to. Excitingly, it’s set to release on Netflix on May 4.

The rest of the summer is rumoured to be filled with an exciting roster of shows, as many more things have been announced with no release date. It’s sure to be a great summer for pop culture.
