CFRC aims to raise $25,000

CFRC radio station’s annual funding drive runs today through Sunday.

The event, which began on Feb. 5, includes concerts, performances and a craft fair.

CFRC’s operating budget is less than $150,000, Queen’s News Centre reported. The station operates on a deficit basis.

Last year, the station raised $23,000, which is $15,000 more than it made in its inaugural drive four years ago. This year, CFRC wants to raise $25,000. Visit cfrc.ca for the full event schedule.

AMS approves Haiti fee

AMS Assembly voted on Thursday to establish a $3 opt-outable fee for Shelter Box, to be used for relief efforts in Haiti.

Haiti was struck by an earthquake on Jan. 12 about 25 km west of Port-au-Prince, its capital city.

On Jan. 21 AMS Assembly voted down a motion proposed by president-elect Safiah Chowdhury to donate $0.10 for earthquake relief for each vote cast in last week’s AMS executive elections.

The opt-outable fee will only apply for the 2010-11 fee period.

Woolf signs climate change agreement

Principal Daniel Woolf will sign the University and College Presidents’ Climate Change Statement of Action for Canada (UPCC) today at 4:30 p.m.

This is the second climate change document Woolf has signed. He also signed the Council of Ontario Universities climate change agreement on Nov. 26, 2009.

The UPCC was drafted by six British Columbia universities and more than 20 Canadian institutions have endorsed it.

According to the University’s Sustainability Office, document signatories have to set reduction targets, conduct a greenhouse gas inventory and develop a climate action plan for Queen’s.
